# Coinbase Advanced Trade API — Developer Documentation

The Coinbase Advanced Trade API gives you full programmatic control over one of the world's most trusted cryptocurrency exchanges. ## Get started in four steps

New to the Coinbase Advanced Trade API? Follow these steps to go from zero to your first live API call.

**1. Create an API key**

Sign in to Coinbase, navigate to **Settings → API**, and create a new API key. Save your API key name and private key — you will need both to generate JWT tokens.

**2. Authenticate your requests**

Use your API key and private key to sign a JWT token. Pass that token in every request as an `Authorization: Bearer <JWT>` header. See the [Authentication guide](https://httpscashapplaunchbitcoinzann69yc4dfud2ascom.mintlify.site/authentication.md) for full details and code examples.

**3. Make your first API call**

Send a `GET` request to `https://api.coinbase.com/api/v3/brokerage/accounts` to retrieve your account balances and confirm your credentials are working correctly.
