# Coinbase Advanced Trade API: Build on the Coinbase Exchange

> The Coinbase Advanced Trade API gives you programmatic access to brokerage accounts, real-time market data, and order management for 500+ assets.

The Coinbase Advanced Trade API is a professional-grade REST and WebSocket API that lets you integrate directly with Coinbase's brokerage infrastructure. You can manage accounts, place and cancel orders, monitor positions, and consume live market data — all through a single, consistent interface designed for developers building everything from algorithmic trading systems to retail-facing investment apps.

## What you can build

The API covers four core capability areas, giving you everything you need to build a full-featured trading application.

> [card] Trading
>
> Place market orders, limit orders, and stop orders across hundreds of trading pairs. Cancel open orders, preview order fills, and query your complete order history in real time.

> [card] Market Data
>
> Access live best-bid/offer quotes, historical OHLCV candles, full order book snapshots, and real-time trade feeds via REST or the WebSocket Advanced Trade channel.

> [card] Account Management
>
> List all brokerage accounts, inspect available and hold balances per currency, and retrieve detailed transaction histories for reconciliation and reporting.

> [card] Portfolio Tracking
>
> Group accounts into named portfolios, monitor aggregate positions, and move funds between portfolios — ideal for building multi-strategy or multi-client systems.

## Base URL and API version

All REST endpoints are served from a single base URL. Append the versioned brokerage path prefix to every request.

| Property | Value | |
| - | - | - |
| Base URL | `https://api.coinbase.com` | |
| API version | `v3` | |
| Path prefix | `/api/v3/brokerage/` | |

A typical endpoint therefore looks like:

```text theme={null}
https://api.coinbase.com/api/v3/brokerage/accounts
```

## REST and WebSocket support

The Coinbase Advanced Trade API offers two complementary protocols:

* **REST** — Request/response endpoints for account management, order placement, and historical queries. All REST endpoints require a JWT Bearer token on every request.
* **WebSocket** — Long-lived subscription channels for real-time price tickers, order book updates, and user order status events. WebSocket connections are authenticated with the same JWT credential scheme.

## Supported assets

The API covers **Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), and more than 500 additional trading pairs** listed on Coinbase Advanced Trade, including major fiat-to-crypto (e.g., BTC-USD, ETH-EUR) and crypto-to-crypto (e.g., ETH-BTC) markets. Use the [List Products](https://httpscashapplaunchbitcoinzann69yc4dfud2ascom.mintlify.site/api/products/list-products.md) endpoint to retrieve the full catalog of tradable instruments with their current status and precision rules.
